PTT collaborates with UBE to promote the development of heat-tolerant yeast strains through advanced biotechnology research, aiming to enhance the efficiency of ethanol production in the country
Today (September 19, 2022), Ms. Arunrat Wutthimongkolchai, Executive Vice President of the Innovation Institute at PTT Public Company Limited (3rd from left), and Ms. Sureeyot Khowsurat, President of Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited (3rd from right), signed a contract for the use of yeast technology InnoTherm-380GA in the commercial ethanol production process. The contract was signed between PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) and Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited (UBE), with Ms. Wiwan Thammongkol, Biotechnology and Materials Research Manager (2nd from left), Mrs. Amporn Sudsanguan, Strategic Planning and Innovation Management Manager at PTT Public Company Limited (left), Mr. Chun Phokaisawan, CFO at UBE (2nd from right), and Mr. Wutthipong Nilpai, Executive Vice President of the Ethanol Business at Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited (right), present as witnesses. This collaboration utilizes advanced biotechnology developed by the PTT Innovation Institute to create heat-resistant yeast strains. These strains help reduce the use of starch-digesting enzymes in the ethanol production process from cassava, lowering enzyme costs without compromising production efficiency. Furthermore, it supports the use of technology developed by Thai researchers, reducing dependence on imported technologies and enhancing technological and energy stability, thereby driving the country's economy towards sustainability.
